Corns and Callouses

Callouses are caused by pressure or friction on the foot. This is notthe same as a wart, which is actually a viral infection of the skin. Painfulcorns are caused by friction or pressure. The corn is thickening of theskin in reaction to the stimulation.

Over the couter medicines will soften the corn at times, and you shouldtry to wear shoes which ease the pressure. If the problem persists, seea podiatrist. Xrays will help to show the cause of the problem and suggesta permanent solution. The corn can often be cut down and padded to givetemporary relief.
